In mouse models, inhibiting vesicle release from hippocampal astrocytes impairs recognition memory, while chemogenetic activation enhances contextual fear memory. These findings highlight the significant role of hippocampal astrocytes in hippocampus-dependent brain functions and behaviors. Their close interaction with neurons facilitates information processing and influences memory formation in the hippocampus.
